Few private institutes in Singapore can boast the history that MDIS has -- dating back to 1955 as the Supervisory and Management Training Association of Singapore (SAMTAS), taking on its current name in 1984 and now operating out of a purpose-built, 3-hectare campus on Stirling Road alongside an international presence in Tashkent, Johor and Dushanbe. MDIS offers more than 70 programmes in conjunction with universities from the UK, including Edinburgh Napier University, University of Sunderland, Bangor University, Leeds Beckett University, University of Portsmouth, University of Roehampton, Northumbria University and Teesside University, covering accounting, banking & finance, business, engineering, fashion & design, healthcare & nursing, IT, life sciences, media & communications, psychology, tourism & hospitality and airline & airport management, from certificate and diploma right up to master's and doctorate, with full-time, part-time and e-learning study modes. The institute's not-for-profit MDIS Education Trust Fund has awarded more than 8,000 scholarships worth over S$6 million since 1999, while MDIS has been awarded with a Singapore Prestige Brand Award in the Heritage Brands category and Singapore Quality Class certification -- a track record that displays genuine longevity rather than an unproven newcomer.
MDIS is EduTrust Certified and has been renewed multiple times since its initial awarding in 2010, while also being among the first local private education institutions to be registered under Singapore's Enhanced Registration Framework. In addition, eight of MDIS's UK partner universities have seen their MDIS programs separately accredited by China's Ministry of Education. The qualifications are awarded by the relevant UK universities, rather than by MDIS itself.
Stirling Road campus (a S$35 million facility) with computer, life-sciences and engineering labs, fashion studios, a hospitality training centre and media/broadcast facilities; MDIS Residences@Stirling provides on-campus housing for around 1,700 students.
Direct entry into an MDIS diploma or degree programme generally requires completed secondary education (Year 12 or equivalent) with results to meet the benchmark of the chosen programme, as well as an English proficiency score such as IELTS, PTE and TOEFL, where the required score is specified per programme and not published as an overall figure. Alternatively, those who may not be immediately ready can first undertake some of MDIS's own Cambridge-syllabus preparatory courses (O-Level, A-Level, IGCSE) before progressing to a diploma or degree, which a counsellor is on hand to help plan out.
