6-Month Diploma in Singapore with Paid Internship: The Ultimate 2026 Guide for Indians

Study for 6 months in Singapore followed by a 6-month paid internship with a local employer. In this guide, we walk you through how the programme works, realistic earnings, eligibility, Student's Pass, and future prospects.

What Is a 6-Month Diploma with Paid Internship?

A 6-month diploma is a full-time course offered by a Private Education Institution (PEI) in Singapore. It is a 12-month programme comprising two sections/semesters. Quoting from one Singapore college's website about its Hospitality diploma course, the programme is made up of 6-months of institutional learning plus 6 months of Industrial Attachment.

  • Industrial Attachment or Internship: The second half of the programme is an assessed, mandatory, and formal workplace training with a local company as an employee on a monthly allowance. Industrial Attachment is a core component of most diplomas offered by Private Education Institutions and is not an optional add-on.
  • Institutional Learning: You attend classes in Singapore as a full-time student for the first half of the programme to complete the diploma's coursework.

In just one year, you can complete a globally recognised diploma, gain 6 months of work experience in Singapore, and earn a monthly income.

Why Study in Singapore?

  • World-class education in an English-speaking environment. Singapore is one of the safest, cleanest, and most efficient countries in the world. Additionally, Singapore is an English-speaking global city.
  • Proximity and convenience. It's a short flight away from most Indian cities with a large Indian diaspora, numerous Indian restaurants, and festivals like Diwali celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm.
  • Employers value work experience. A 6-month internship in Singapore will look great on your resume, regardless of where you end up working after your studies.
  • Quick results. You can complete a 6-month diploma with 6 months of paid internship and gain experience and qualifications in just one year after your class 12 exams.

Earnings: How much can you earn during the Internship?

This is the most frequently asked question by students and parents, so here's an honest answer based on research:

What the institutions say

Since the internship allowance is determined by the host company, not the educational institution, the amounts will differ. However, certain colleges/institutions release information regarding the average internship compensation they provide to students.

According to the Academies Australasia College website, their Hotel Management students are offered an average of S$1,200 per month allowance during their Industrial Attachment, although this may depend on market demands.

How much does an intern in Singapore earn?

Reputable universities in Singapore provide suggested internship compensation rates for their students. For instance, Singapore Management University advises paying S$1,000 per month, and says competitive employers such as MNCs and global banks typically pay between S$1,000 to S$1,500. The National University of Singapore sets a minimum of S$1,000 per month for engineering interns, with employers aiming to pay at least S$1,200.

While not all diploma students get the exact same allowance, this data demonstrates that paying interns a reasonable wage is the norm in Singapore.

Before Applying

Ask your counsellor to provide you with a ballpark estimate of the typical allowance for the course you're enrolling in. Inquire about the firms that place students on internship and what happens if no company is found. Ask them to disclose the monthly allowance a student can anticipate getting during their internship.

Which courses have paid internships?

Industrial Attachment is more common in occupations that have ties to the hotel and restaurant industries. Accommodation, Food & Beverage, Front Office, Events Management, Catering, and Theme Parks are some of the departments where Hospitality students may be placed on attachment in Singapore. Culinary Arts, Business, Retail Management, Supply Chain & Logistics, and other industries are also popular areas of study at many colleges offering 6-month diplomas with 6-month internships.

Eligibility: Who can study in Singapore?

Depending on the college, eligibility varies. However, most colleges have a similar set of requirements.

  • Academic qualifications: Most colleges ask for secondary/high school graduation with an English language mark. For instance, one of the colleges requested that international students have completed secondary education with a pass in English.
  • Language proficiency: Language competency requirements differ from college to college. One college, for example, provides several options for fulfilling language competency, such as IELTS 5.5, a prior English-medium qualification, or completion of their English certificate programme.
  • Age: Some colleges require students to be at least 18 years old when starting their Industrial Attachment.
  • Financial constraints: You or your sponsor must be able to support your studies.

How to choose the right institution? Is EduTrust certification important?

This is the most essential aspect, however, many students overlook it.

Every private institution in Singapore registers with the Committee for Private Education, a division of SkillsFuture Singapore. However, the registration has nothing to do with endorsing or recommending the institution. EduTrust certification, on the other hand, distinguishes between private education institutes based on their quality of education and outcomes.

EduTrust certification also relates to the Student's Pass. According to Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), international students admitted to full-time courses at EduTrust-certified PEIs are eligible to apply for a Student's Pass. Other Private Education Institutions, on the other hand, cannot accept foreign students unless they already have a Student's Pass or another type of long-term visa.

In other words, if you're an Indian student applying for a Student's Pass to study in Singapore, your college has to be EduTrust-certified.

We at Inter Asia Careers only deal with EduTrust-certified colleges/institutions.

Student's Pass: The student visa in Singapore

Your college's Student's Pass application process begins after you've received your offer letter. Apply for your Student's Pass well in advance since you won't be able to extend your current visa while your new application is being processed. Processing times for a Student's Pass typically take about a month, according to ICA, and two weeks for EduTrust-certified private education institutions. Passports, academic transcripts, birth certificates, financial documents, photographs, and the college's paperwork are examples of essential documents.

How the paid internship works

This is handled through an official MOM permit.

According to MOM, foreign students arriving in Singapore for a training programme should apply for a Training Work Permit, Training Employment Pass, or be part of the Work Holiday scheme. Students enrolled in a diploma at a private institution have the option of applying for a Training Work Permit, as stated by Kingston International College. A Training Work Permit is appropriate for foreign trainees who are in Singapore for a period of up to six months, according to the Ministry of Manpower.

The placement in the host organisation is dependent on interviews

While colleges arrange the placement, the interviews are conducted by the host organisation, and your grooming, attitude, and communication skills will be tested.

Even if you can't land an internship, you can still graduate

If the Industrial Attachment can't be completed, reputable institutions allow you to graduate by substituting it with another module/module examination. According to STEi Institute, students who are unable to participate in the Industrial Attachment for causes beyond the control of the Institute will be required to finish Project Work so that they can graduate with the same diploma. Please keep in mind that you won't be eligible for the internship allowance in the event of such a scenario.

Can I get a part-time job during the 6-month study phase?

No, you can't, and it's essential that you understand that.

According to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), term-time employment is only available to students enrolled in approved educational institutions, such as universities, polytechnics, Institutes of Technical Education (ITE), and a few others. Furthermore, it is illegal for a foreign student to work in Singapore without a valid work visa. Any agent selling you a "part-time job" option is putting your future in risk because such deception can jeopardise your Student's Pass.

What Are the Costs Involved?

  • Tuition fees: Though this varies between institutions, you may expect to pay roughly S$8,000 for a 6-month diploma with internship. For example, STEi Institute lists S$8,000 for international students on its Diploma in Hospitality Management, and SISH Institute lists S$8,100 for its Diploma in Hospitality Operations, both including GST. On top of that, expect an application fee of roughly S$220–370. SISH, for example, charges S$220 for applicants from South Asia. Always enquire whether GST, insurance, uniforms and other charges are included with this quoted fee.
  • Accommodation: This is the biggest expenditure after fees and shared rentals are recommended; budget about S$700–1,000 per month for a room in a public housing (HDB) flat, or S$1,000–2,000 per month for a room in a private apartment.
  • Food: The second largest expenditure after tuition. However, eating in hawker centres allows you to keep this under control. Budget about S$300–800 per month, depending on whether you cook and where you eat.
  • Transportation: Singapore’s buses and MRT are cheap and efficient, and you can budget about S$80–200 per month.
  • Monthly living total: These put together, a student staying in a shared HDB room may expect to spend roughly S$1,100–2,000 per month. However, in our experience there are ways by which many students live comfortably with less than this. They share rooms to cut down on rent, cook rather than eat out and stick to hawker centres for food. By walking or taking the bus for short distances, and cutting down expenditure you could well find that your actual monthly expenditure is much less than this.

One-time costs

  • Student’s Pass: about S$135 in total. ICA charges a S$45 processing fee, a S$60 issuance fee, and S$30 for a Multiple Journey Visa, in the case of Indian Nationals.
  • Medical examination: up to about S$65 at a Singapore clinic for the consultation, HIV test, chest X-ray and report.
  • Accommodation deposit: Usually one month’s rent in advance, so roughly S$700–1,000 for an HDB room.
  • Flights: a one-way economy ticket from Delhi to Singapore may cost around ₹12,000–25,000, depending on the season and how far in advance you book the flight.

You should understand that during the 6-month study, you would mostly be reliant on your own money since working part-time is not allowed. In the second half of the diploma, however, the allowance would supplement your earnings. We will give you a comprehensive breakdown of the costs involved before you make a final decision.

What are my options after completing the diploma?

  • Pursuing further studies: You may be able to use your qualification to enter into advanced or higher-level diplomas and even bachelor's degrees. You might, for instance, work or continue your studies at TMC Academy's Higher Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management upon finishing the TMC Academy's Hospitality diploma.
  • Working in Singapore: After completing a diploma in Singapore, some students are hired by their internship employers. According to the Ministry of Manpower, upon the conclusion of your studies, you would need to acquire a work visa since your Student's Pass will no longer be valid. Your company will be able to apply for a work visa for you, but it's not guaranteed.

Furthermore, your experience in international hospitality and cuisine, as well as your work ethic and expertise, would enable you to secure jobs in India, the UAE, and other countries.

Who should consider the 6-month diploma with a 6-month internship?

This is ideally suited for students who desire to study abroad and gain work experience right away, have an interest in the hotel and catering industries, are considering careers in business, retail, and supply chains, and are willing to work hard to get a job in their chosen field while presenting confidently during interviews. It's not recommended, nevertheless, for students who are only interested in permanent residency or who are unable to cover their living expenditures for the first six months of their studies. We'll inform you if a different overseas study alternative would be a better fit for you.
